Akoka Junior High Sch

On the 13th of February, Alafia Empowerment Foundation hosted “Beyond the Classroom: Reading and Researching for Life” at Akoka Junior High School, Akoka, Yaba. The programme focused on encouraging students to develop intentional reading habits and understand the importance of research beyond examinations and classroom learning.
The session featured interactive talks from invited speakers who addressed building a reading culture, overcoming barriers to reading, and using research as a tool for critical thinking and personal growth. Over 70 students were in attendance, actively participating in discussions and asking thoughtful questions. The programme also created awareness about the need for improved access to books and learning resources within the school.
The initiative was well received by the school management, staff, and students, and it laid the foundation for continued support through Alafia Empowerment Foundation’s proposed school adoption and literacy support efforts.
